The dreaded letter.

62mph in a 50 limit - manned equipment - so i'm guessing chap with a radar gun? It's a wide open straight single carriageway which used to be NSL and i've never seen any speed traps there.

Am I right in thinking i'll be offered a speed awareness course for this?
How do I go about requesting evidence/a picture? Just to check I was driving ;)

My course offer was in the NIP I received, so if you've got the NIP and no course offer, I don't think you'll get it.

Our speed laws are so archaic it's ridiculous.

Unlucky mate. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time :(

I believe you are only offered a speed awareness course if you are within a few percentage of the speed limit.

Eligibility for Referral (ACPO Guidelines)

Speed Limit (MPH) | Speed Awareness lower level threshold (10% + 2 mph) | Speed Awareness higher level threshold (10% + 9 mph)
30 35 42
40 46 53
50 57 64
60 68 75
70 79 86

A speed awareness course must not be offered to a driver if the offence is in a 20mph limit.

I've known someone be pulled over when doing 10% + 19mph (96mph on motorway) and get offered the course, so those guidelines are pretty loose.

Damn, I wasn't far from being offered a speed awareness course for my 68 in a 50 then :)

I think people would have less of a problem with speed laws if the upper restrictions on major dual carriageways/motorways were eased.

Huge motorway? http://goo.gl/maps/u4lfa MAXIMUM SEVENTY MILES PER HOUR!!!11

Tiny country lane that people live directly on? http://goo.gl/maps/3kqf2 60 ofc

On one hand we drive to the conditions with a high limit, and on the other we are conditioned to driving with our brains switched off.

You can bet that the BRAKE brigade would be far more up in arms if you dared to do 80mph on that motorway than tool along that country lane at 55mph, too...

Or those that do 40mph on a fast sweeping country lane, and continue to do 40mph in town where the limit is 30mph, and then proceed to get mad when you dare overtake them
