As the title, had my macbook pro now since feb and just thought that it may be time to run speedisk? Only got 'back' into macs since have the mbp and have not run speedisk since early macs (think they were 9400's or something:p)

Anyway, do you guys run this like defrag in windows? or does the mac like most things do a better job of keeping its drives tidy.
If it is recomended is it just a case of booting with the disk in and running the app?

cheers

There's no need to defrag on a Mac at all.

They do it themselves and keep themselves clean. I recommend running Onyx to keep it all clean and clear the caches etc, but other than that it should be fine.

Go to Applications : Utilities: Terminal, and type:

sudo periodic daily (hit enter, and enter your user password)

This will clean up the Mac, and if you're still paranoid you can clear the caches :)

There's a program called iDefrag which defragments your hard-drives, but to do a full, proper defrag, you ideally need to use another Mac (with the Mac you want to defrag connected via Firewire and in Target Disk Mode). Does make a difference though.

Nice setup in sig the voice;)

Thanks for the ideas though, tbh, if the macs do not need it as people suggest then i will leave it be, its not as if i have a problem or anything.

Thanks again though guys.
