Speedo Accuracy

Mine is a bit odd, ive got a digital display (Its a C3), not that it probably makes any difference but when using GPS it overreads by 4mph all the time, so 34 is 30 and 74 is 70, weird!

A lot of cars have a digital gubbins behind, even if the speedo itself has a needle.

This kind of comment, you can keep to yourself. It was a road I have used a lot and was it was pretty straight and not many cars where about. I hardly think me noticing a big display was a lack of concentration.

Thanks for all the comments and help everyone. It has made me understand it all a bit better now and like I said before, I try and get hold of a GPS at some point :)

How far is my speedo out and what is the average micra's are out by, if it works like that?

My mums just dont work... well i think it doesn't... it didnt used to but i know the petrol gage dosen't...

Its not common sense. I happened to look to the side of me as someone was overtaking me and noticed a big orange display showing 61. I then looked back straight ahead of me. Whats the big problem in that?

you took your eyes of the road ahead of you could have killed 30 kids in that time and then you would have had the OCUK crash investigation team all over you ;)

I'm surprised you could see his dashboard from your car though. Do you know for sure that you read it right?
 
Dirtydog: I know its been a while but I would like to apologise anyway for getting annoyed. You have your opinion and I have mine.

Maybe I did read it wrong im not sure but I know that when I drive along 30mph roads at around 29mph people are always up my rear end which gives me the impression that either 90% of people want to speed or maybe my speedo's off slightly and there getting annoyed at me possibly sitting at 25mph? It feels like im doing the right speed though :confused:

yes, that is one thing that annoys me... although the oposite end of scale.... im following a line of cars in a 50mph zone..... we are all doing 45-50. yet if a camera comes up everyone slows to 35-40. Why is that?

its even worse when people decide to slam there brakes on and slow down to 25-30mph.
 
My GPS was always 3mph slower than the digital speedo in the Mini. Think its something simular in the new car :)

Speedo Tune Up Time :-

You can fine tune your speed and readings by following me through a speed camera trap :D

They are perfect whilst coupled with GPS for getting to know what your actual speed is. Just don't over do it eh ;)

From personal experience : Average speed camera stretches on the M1 where the limit is 40mph - I would maintain 44mph.

When seeing the boys in blue everyone slows down to 70mph (ARRRRGH THIS IS SO ANNOYING - 70 is NOT your actual speed dimwits), so I'd over take everyone casually at 77mph then find a truck to hide in front off before shortly sprinting off to regain 'normal' motorway speeds.

I'm not an advocate for speeding as I used to drive up and down the M1 daily (300mile round trip). Its all about MAINTAINING A GOOD constant speed without bursting occasionally to illegal speeds.

Not really. I am quite happy having a virtually "spot on" speedo. I drive through 30 cameras at 33, knowing I'm right on the boundary. People behind are clearly going slower, travelling at what their speedos are showing as 30, but not sure how fast they are actually going.

With regards to the speedo, I don't subscribe to the ignorance is bliss theory :)

Whatever gave you that idea :confused:

Anyway driving at 33 in your car implying 30 real is not the real boundary as there is an additional 5-7% leeway that the camera gives you before happy snapping time.

As per my 1st post you're driving speed is at the sweet spot exactly as I had explained and practice myself :p
