Sorry Guys ,

Im new to this.

Is it correct to disable Speedstep when overclocking?
I would have thought there would be more stress put on the cpu over its lifetime as it is running full pelt when idle?as well as using and more energy.
I can only guess that this would make for a more noisy machine.
Iwas going to clock a q6600 to 3.2 ghz with an Artic Pro cooler.on a p5k premium

You need to disable speed step to oc your machine and find stable results.
After that you can turn it on knowing you will be running your CPU slower and cooler and it will only ramp up when needed, and be quieter.
As for life, if you have a stable oc you will want to be replacing the cpu with a newer one before you kill the thing!

Problem is that Asus boards do not allow as I understand to enable Speedstep after an Overclock. The option is not available

Hi

Can Anyone confirm that this is the case with Asus boards and if I cannot use Speedstep whether this is good or bad cotinually running at the overclock speed
