Spiced Rum

Spiced? No no, what you want is some Wray and Nephews.

Neat it tastes like the stuff they fuel tanks and shipping containers with, with coke it's good though, strong rum flavour.

Nothing can take the jet fuel edge off that stuff, it makes you look like this

Morgans spiced is my standard go to rum, kraken is absolutely lovely, but not available as widely and a bit more expensive, lovely deep flavour and great bottle.

Red leg is nice, strong vanilla taste if that's your thing.

And bacardi oakheart is the worst by far, tasted a bit cheap, with that horrible hairspray type bitter aftertaste.

Not a spiced rum, but brugal extra viejo is probably my favourite rum thus far.

Rum & coke or rum & ginger beer are my favourites. I'm sure some will call me a heathen, but they compliment rum so well, even the expensive ones.

Spiced rum is my sprint of choice too, here's a few I'd recommend checking out:

Morgans Spiced: A nice sweet rounded flavour without any major extremes, which is why it tends to be a lot of peoples intro to spiced rum. If you ever see the Private Reserve get a bottle, it's gorgeous, and the bottle is awesome too :D

Cockspur Spiced: Ridiculously smooth and subtle flavour, even to the point where it can get lost in too much coke. Nice with not too much mixer or straight. Works surprisingly well for making rum blends too as it tends to smooth out the aftertaste.

Sailor Jerrys: A controversial one, Sailor Jerry's had a major following with it's original recipe but put a few noses out of joint when they changed it. The sailor Jerry's on sale now is still okay, better than lambs spiced, but notably different from the original. New Sailor Jerry's has a bit more going on in the flavours department than Morgans and Kraken but if you want to taste the old recipe - try Old Spiced J

Old Spiced J: Heavy on the sweetness with the strong vanilla flavours but in a very good way. Highly recommend trying this one too. Regarded by many as the go to replacement for Old Jerry's.

Kraken: One of the fewer darker Spiced rums which gives it a a strong flavour behind the spices. If you haven't tried it get yourself to your local whetherspoons as it seems to be nationwide. Drunk it many times on a night out but never bought a bottle for the house so far.

Elements 8: Don't see this one everywhere but it's worth keeping an eye out for. It's a pretty complex flavoured rum with honey, fruits and spices. Don't drown it in a mixer and it's gorgeous.

Red Leg: Not too sweet but lovely and smooth. Tried it randomly in a pub and hunted down a bottle. Definitely worth a taste, think it's relatively new on the scene so may get a bit easier to find soon.

Lambs Spiced: Not a fan of this one, the spices are too weak with the overpowering rum even without a mixer. May be nicer if you're a fan of the straight rums but for me it left me wanting.

Then last but by no means least:

Barcardi Oakheart: This ones my go to spiced rum for 2 reasons. 1 it's easy to find in UK supermarkets and 2 because out of all the rums that are easy to find, I think it's by far the best :) It has that extra depth of flavour which makes it distinctively stand out from the others. If you've never tried have a few sips... then wonder what happened to the rest of the bottle!

They should keep you going for a while ;)

Excellent, will be down ASDA soon so will keep those noted down. Cheers :)

mount gay is apparently good.
I had captain morgans at Christmas thanks to the free glass tankard offer :D

Who doesn't want a glass with a pirate on it YARR!

Mount Gay is bit expensive :(

how much is it supposed to be? I saw it in asda once for like £25 for 70cl and was like WTF?!?!?!?!? maybe a litre at that price.
lol :p

Seriously tempted to have a walk in to town and get some rum now though :| (I think all the off-license near me just have tiny spirit sections :|)

**** it tesco is calling me hopefully they have more than one brand to choose from

Yea it's pretty **** but I don't drink to often so can't say I really mind and I've never tried mount gay rum before so I guess it's worth it.

Rum is probably one of the few alcoholic drinks I enjoy the taste of too so no harm in trying out some different brands even if they are a bit over priced over here :)

I'm not much of a connoisseur when it comes to alcohol, I have some that I like more than others but I seem to be quite content with just about anything I'm handed.

I have only tried rum relatively recently, Captain Morgan's and Sailor Jerry's, far too easy to drink. I'm quite curious about Kraken now that I've seen it mentioned.

Spent a night drinking rum all night recently.

Start on Morgan spiced until they run out, then moved onto Sailor Jerry and then onto Kraken.

I didn't prefer any one of them, all so similar it doesn't matter tbh.

Although by the time i was onto the Kraken I was almost drunk enough to think i was a pirate so maybe that's why I didn't notice much difference :p

Randomly Ron Jeremy (yeah... that Ron Jeremy) has made a spiced rum called 'Ron De Jeremy' and it's meant to be brilliant, won an award this year already! Anyone had a try?
