IF you don't have stain remover, mix some bicarbonate of soda with water into a white paste, and put that on the stain for a while, then get a towel, and press/dab it off, don't rub!

Quick way:

Press Kitchen towel or a tea towel on it until its soaked up. Do not rub it out.

For stains, if there is any White Wine kicking about, put some on a clean white/cream towel and rub the stain gently.

The smell of the wine will wear off quick and the stain will be removed 99% of the time.

Indeed, white wine is amazing for stains. A friend of mine knocked a full glass of red wine onto my cream carpet. To my horror my gf grabbed her glass of white wine and poured that all over it as well and dabbed it.

No stain whatsoever, from red wine on cream carpet. I dont like white wine but i now keep some in just incase

All you people suggesting he waste more alcahol are Evil and on another note salt works well for any wine or beer stain. White wine can sort out red but is a waste of wine and salt is the best for removing wine stains by far!

I'd suggest a good Dijon Mustard. This stuff is known for removing the most stubborn of stains!
