I have 2 of these in my rig.

I've discovered that one of the F1's pulsates, it a dull, low tone pulsating but can be heard over all the other components, and quite loud.. It really doesn't sound too healthy but the drives performs fine other than that?

Anyone else noticed this?

I use a program called Hard Disk Sentinel... Great tool helped me realize when my hard drive was dying as there were no other evident signs.

It might be as simple as the mountings resonating, have you tried loosening the screws off a fraction or even running it sat on the bottom of the case?

My brand new F1 1gb also pulsates.

For some reason since I formatted and installed it I can't access SMART data though, so I can't run any tests.

SMART is enabled in the bios, I can't work out why the information isn't available. Both in HD Sentinel and HD Tune.

I think I get this on one of my drives.

It sounds a bit like one of those children's toys. The plastic tubes you tilt that make a funny noise.

Quite annoying.

i have 3 F1s (2x 750 and a 1tb) and sometimes there is a pulsating drone sound, if the case is moved very slightly it stops so it seems to be resonance as RPstewart said

Maybe try some of the rubber grommet thingys? I have 3x 1TB F1's but my Lian Li case has a rubber mounting system so I cant hear or feel anything out of the ordinary...

I've attached some foam rubber pads to both my F1 drives and so far (touch wood, finger crossed etc) it seems to eliminated the problem.

I've got 3 Spinpoint F1 500GB drives, two are silent but one 'thrums' a little. It's not really all that noticeable, especially if I'm doing other things, but it is annoying at times.

I've got it installed in a Lian-Li drive holder too, with the rubber grommits, and it is still audible. Most of the time though, it's powered down as it's not my main drive, so I'm not too motivated to do anything about it!

Just noticed my new 1TB F1 is doing this. A gradual increasing hum of about 1 sec duration and then quiet and so on. It's mounted with silencing washers of sorts, so i'm pretty sure it's not the case. I only noticed it since I fitted my F1 about a week ago.
