Ive got a spinpoint F1 1TB and find it noisy as hell.

Im after the 500gb F3 and was wondering if any1 cud comment on whether its makes lots of clatter or not?

cheers

I have the F3 1TB drives and there is options with the EStool.exe to have select Automatic acoustic management (AAM), even had FASTEST mode the drives are quiet, the drives (AAM) are selected [disabled] by default, other settings, quiet, fast, fastest, disabled, to which is the default setting am unsure.

A long shot but have you checked the case mounting. Is it screwed directly to the frame? Even the quietest drive can sound loud if it resonates in a case (especially an aluminium one). Otherwise agree it must be faulty as mine is silent as well.

its not screwed. ive got those rubber grommets surrounding it and slots in. Lian Li PCV1110

ive had a hitachi desktar p7k500 i tink. it was extremly silent but ran hot. anyway not sure i can do anything now since its over 12 months

just checked and its in warranty. need to run the diagnostic tool when i get time.

question is if its faulty and i request RMA is the F1 1TB discontinued or will it be as a nice F3 1TB replacement would be nice ;)

Sorry, RMAd my F1 a month ago and got another new F1 back. The process is very quick though through a UK service centre.

Yep quite true for my case.

Both my hard drives, a Samsung F3 500GB and F1 1TB are mounted to my case with the usual cheap standard plastic rails and because my case is aluminium, I can hear and feel some vibrations.

Though this is mostly true for my F1 ITB drive but then because it has like 800GBs of stuff, and generally a hard drive that is almost filled will make some noise due to the amount of stuff it has to access. Still it's not insanely loud and I can live with it.

My F3 500GB is actually pretty quiet, and I can only hear it slightly when I boot my computer up (Pretty normal I'm sure), or if I need to do a deep full anti-virus scan. But general usage or loading games, I cannot hear a thing.

Have you checked what AAM it is set to? Using Samsung's hard disk utility.

My F1's AAM was disabled, so I set it to quiet. It increased seak time by around 2ms.

it seem much quieter in my F3 1TB.. maybe your other hardware like PSU or anything else. I used F3 1TB and F1 1TB that run much nicely -- try download Samsung site for HDD software to tuning the HDD..

i ran the samsung diagnostics on the full scan and it said my drive passed so it must be fine? i still find it distinctly noisy tho over all the pcs i use but thats no basis for RMA is it....cosidering its passed the test :(

next reboot iwill have to try the acoustic management. thanks for the tip

Wow it increased seek time performance? Thats impressive!

I just tried AAM and set it to quiet. Does this mean that performance would be detracted?
