I have a hard drive (Seagate 250GB) that has had 3 long DST tests using seatools and passed no problem. My customer informs me the drive is faulty because he has tested the drive using spinrite and this comes up with over 3 million ecc 'errors'.

I have never used spinrite - can anyone shed some light on this.

Cheers.

Spinrite is a low level scan / repair tool. I have used it in the past to recover data off HD's that unrecoverable errors. Essentially, I believe Spinrite is saying the media on the HD disc surface is beginning to lose its magnetic strength. Which is probably why seatools is still saying its ok, since technically, the media still works and the ecc algorithm is still correcting data.....for now.

Cheers for reply. In the end I gave cust 2 new drives as goodwill. Going to have a look at a new drive with spinrite on Monday see what is days about that. I think cust is just being ultra picky.
