Splendor : Made from sugar tastes like sugar

I avoid it myself, just in case, but from what I have read in the past, all the credible studies seem to have declared it safe.

I don't know if I am remembering this correctly, but I had a similar discussion on another forum. It has been declared safe by a lot of different medical bodies, including ones from all over the world; or at least that is what I read in three or four different places. (I may be wrong as I am remembering all of this; it could be incorrect).

Actually it contains aspartame does it not?

Aspartame is FAR worse for you than sugar on the whole, but not as bad for your teeth or as calorific IIRC.

Since when did Splenda contain aspartame?

I was just taking an edumacated guess :p

Having no interest in sugar replacement technologies I just assumed it would be like most other sweeteners, having read up on it, it appears that it is just a chlorinated sugar, not dissimilar to pesticide in molecular construction... nice :/

Your right, just been reading up on it, it contains sucralose. I must have been reading the back of a different sugar alternative product at my mates house as the one I read definatly contained aspartame.

The fact it doesn't usee aspartame is the very reason that we use it in our household... it's completely taken over sugar as our choice of osweetener in tea. Took a bit of getting used to but we like it now. :)

Pfft, a spoonful of sugar isn't going to make you fat.

It's just another con, like ordering a Big Mac and chips, super sized, and a large DIET coke while you're at it :p

i have diet coke with my maccyds. not because its lower in calories or anything, but because it tastes nicer than normal coke.
the majority of the nation agrees with me as well.

looks like i came in too late to mention it doesnt contain aspartame. the ads clearly state its sucralose :]

No way does diet taste better than full-fat coke! :p

yes it does, im sure that last year we (as a nation) bought more diet than normal full fat, for the first time ever.

where do you get this from???

Chlorinated molecules are as common as anything. Most drugs you take (proven safe) exist in chlorinated forms, either molecularly or as a crystallised hydrochloride salt.

Sucralose is modified sucrose, and is packed with dextrose.

Out of all the non-sugar sweetenrs i'd say Splenda (Sucralose) is probably the safest...

Well then they suck anyway. They're filling themselves with Caffeine and they're worried about a little sugar?

It's not a little sugar though that's the health concern with some people.

My boss drinks about 10 cups of coffee a day. Only weak instant but he has 2 sugars in each time.

That's 20 heaped teaspoons of sugar each day. Not to mention all the sugar he'll be getting that day from other food and drink. He runs the risk of getting diabetes later in his life. The caffeine content is still bad, but it's the sugar I would worry about.

I can't believe it's because it tastes better but because more people think that drinking it will help them lead better lives and get into heaven.

Diet drinks never taste better than the normal sugar filled version. Ever.

i only ever drink diet coke. Never choose normal over diet, and thats solely based on taste, as i dont lead a particularly healthy lifestyle in other ways... :p

It's still 10 cups full of caffeine :p

I heard mixing Drinks with Diet Coke will have youi drunker quicker then it will if you mix drinks with the full fat sort due to there being less sugar or something :p

Sucralose is an artificial sweetener known by the trade name Splenda. In the European Union, it is also known under the E number (additive code) E955. It is 320–1,000 times as sweet as sucrose,[2] making it roughly twice as sweet as saccharin and four times as sweet as aspartame. It is manufactured by the selective chlorination of sucrose, by which three of sucrose's hydroxyl groups are substituted with chlorine atoms to produce 1,6-dichloro-1,6-dideoxy-β-D-fructo-furanosyl 4-chloro-4-deoxy-α-D-galactopyranoside or C12H19Cl3O8. Unlike aspartame, it is stable under heat and over a broad range of pH conditions, and can be used in baking, or in products that require a longer shelf life.
