Split VPN tunnel and routing

I use a split VPN network setup at home (i.e. internet traffic goes via my ISP, intranet traffic goes via the VPN). The only problem with that is that I have to manually add a route for the VPN traffic every time I connect.

On another PC I set up, I think I found an automatic way of setting up the route (using lots of Google research), however, it appears I forgot to bookmark the page and can't find it again.

Has anyone else come across this problem and if so do you know the solution?

PS - Yes, I know you can push routing configuration from the VPN server, but that isn't an option in this case

I'm pretty sure I used a variant of #2. I do still have the other PC but didn't have access to it today. I'll check tomorrow and see if I can figure out what I did.

Absolutely. That's a pre-requisite for setting up a split VPN tunnel, but it's the cause of the problem not the solution. :)

Thanks NathanE, I'll give that a try if I run out of other options.

@Hodders, it works for about 15 seconds, then something (I know not what) deletes the routing entry for the office network. When I manually put the route back the connection works until I disconnect.
