Split VPN tunnel and routing

I use a split VPN network setup at home (i.e. internet traffic goes via my ISP, intranet traffic goes via the VPN). The only problem with that is that I have to manually add a route for the VPN traffic every time I connect.

On another PC I set up, I think I found an automatic way of setting up the route (using lots of Google research), however, it appears I forgot to bookmark the page and can't find it again.

Has anyone else come across this problem and if so do you know the solution?

PS - Yes, I know you can push routing configuration from the VPN server, but that isn't an option in this case

Beserker, the only way I've seen what you're asking accomplished is by:

1. The physical configuration of the VPN client configuration file having the routes configured (whichever vendor that may be)

2. Creating a batch file populated with the additional routes, and manually running this after activating your VPN client.

For No.2, I *did* have one I used for work many moons ago, but alas don't believe I do now, although will check tomorrow morning.

If you know another way, I'd like to know aswell :)

I'm pretty sure I used a variant of #2. I do still have the other PC but didn't have access to it today. I'll check tomorrow and see if I can figure out what I did.

Absolutely. That's a pre-requisite for setting up a split VPN tunnel, but it's the cause of the problem not the solution. :)

I must be misunderstanding what you want here.

I have a VPN into my office set up as I described above. All traffic to the servers on the work subnet 10.0.1.x goes over the VPN all other traffic goes over my ISP broadband link.

What extra routing functionaility do you need ?

Sounds like that's a winner. ^^ :)

Does it work with all Vendors hardware? (Watchguard FireBOX, Cisco PIX etc)

If you do need the batch file for split tunnelling PM me and I'll mail it to you, found it now.

Thanks NathanE, I'll give that a try if I run out of other options.

@Hodders, it works for about 15 seconds, then something (I know not what) deletes the routing entry for the office network. When I manually put the route back the connection works until I disconnect.
