Spore release date confirmed!

Thing is I want to get a really cheap laptop, but It must be able to play spore.

what does the sims2 require?

2.0 GHz processor
256 MB RAM if Windows XP
128 MB RAM if Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 gigs of free hard drive space

With the recommended video cards...

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Nvidia Geforce 4

If you have the laptop now, try out The Sims 2 demo, if it can run that, I'm sure it will be able to handle Spore.

I dont think that they are going to be to high, but then again, the game is going to be totally 3d so its going to be interesting, I think CPU wise any 2 core processor will do, but a mid range GPU might be required and 2Gb of RAM

As for Sims2 *looks as Sims2 Pets case from sister's bedroom*

Processor: 1.2
RAM: 256
HDD: 1.5Gb
GPU: 32Mb (T&L capable)

Thats all it says, but I get the impression from what it says on the case that 512mb GPU if more then 5 expansion packs are installed....

You reckon something like this would run it?
· CORE 2 DUO PROCESSOR T7200

· WIDE SCREEN 15.4" WXGA (1280X800) DISPLAY

· MEMORY DUAL-CHANNEL 2048MB (2X1024) 667Mhz

· HARD DRIVE 80GB SERIAL ATA (5400 RPM)

· DVD+/-RW (READ/WRITE) 8X FIXED INTERNAL

· GRAPHICS CARD ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400

· INTEL® PRO WIRELESS 3945 802.11A/B/G

· INTEGRATED SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY

· 5 in 1 Card Reader (Reads Memory Cards)

I have no idea about laptop gfx though.

Definitely.

I used to run it on an Athlon 64, with a 6600GT back in the day. So you should have no problems.

Should be pretty reasonable at playing quite a few games to be honest.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but anything I should look for when buying a laptop, never had one before, no nothing about them. Horrible things compared to desktops.

That spec seems to be around the 300-400 mark on the bay. Could I get a lower spec and still be safe?

suppose that it would depend on the spec, I'ma games player and hated playing games on a laptop, integrated components are never going to be as fast, well not for a few good years anyway... I went back from a laptop to a computer, still use a low spec laptop for my work but for gaming nothing beats a desktop...

Let me know what spec you are looking at mate...

Of course EA will have dumbed the game down, no doubt they've also added in some crappy techno soundtrack too. You have factor in the lowest common denominator don't you, i.e. the chav!

If you really think that techno listeners are the lowest common denominator you obiviously have never been inside that culture and talked to the people behind it.

Please please please please please!!

For the love of god, when it is released, please release it as a complete game rather than a The Sims franchise again...

Spore
Spore: Interplanet Date
Spore: Galactic Universe
Spore: Night Out
Spore: Deluxe Edition

and so on and so forth... Just 1 complete game. Please.

(Chances are, my prayers isn't gonna be answered...)

Definitely not going to be like that I'm afraid. :(

I got my desktop for playing games.
Laptop will be sat nav, web browsing and some simple games like spore or C&C type things. Certainly no fps.

I can't help but chuckle at the sims franchise mainly because
every X amount of months you see another addition spawned
into existence for the sake of milking every last stinking penny
from it. ooohh a new add-on with kitchen stuff, init wicked.

For the people who buy it, it probably is "wicked". The series wouldn't of sold 100 million otherwise.

Thought I might as well bump this, as apposed to starting a new topic :)

The final system specs for the hotly-awaited Spore have been released. And here they are. How's that for room service?

Straight from the official website. These aren't rumuors or speculation, they're the facts.

Windows XP:
2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
512 MB RAM
A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
At least 6 GB of hard drive space

Windows Vista
2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
768 MB RAM
A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
At least 6 GB of hard drive space

The site adds: "When launching the game, some Microsoft Vista users may receive a warning about running out of address space along with a link to the Microsoft Knowledge Base. If you see this message, it is recommended that you follow the instructions and go to the website listed in the message to update your system."

Oh and for PCs using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires:

Intel Integrated Chipset, 945GM or above
2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
768 MB RAM

Read up on the specs some more here.

My mate has a 1.8ghz Intel Core 2 duo lappy with 1gb ram and Intel 945gm graphics, I'm quite interested to see if this game will run smoothly on it, even it is all on low/off settings...

Generally though, looks like they've managed to get a good range of computers in there, as the majority of PC's sold over the last few years (even pre-built ones) will hopefully be over that spec. 128mb graphics card could be the downfall in pre-built ones, but all our PC's will run this with the eye candy turned up :)
