Anyone "excited" by Spore?

spore-screenshot3.jpg

I am personally really looking forward to when it comes out. It is going to be the next game by Will Wright and Maxis.. the people behind The Sims and Sim City, so it'll be good. I hope! It was going to be called Sim Everything, because you start with a single cell organism, and end up making a city, then going into space and colonising other planets.

afaik the biggest deal about this game is its compressed heavily and things happen in real-time like kkreiger did.

*reboot*
*upgrading VaderDSL v1.0 OS*
*VaderDSL v1.1 OS now installed*

see the kkreiger fps beta download? (e.g. the sub 100KB file that is a FPS shooter sort of)
well afaik that was small due to them using compression and instead of using loads of harddrive space and memory it used the cpu to interactively produce enemies etc (ai parts)

Ahh yeah I remember that, it was awesome how it was done :) I didn'r realise spore was along the same lines :) thats very cool

I think its more than that. The fact it includes elements fromgames such as populus, pacman, sim city and others.

And the ability to create lots of types of creatures. Even a carebear has been made and shown :p

i'm not, don't see what the big deal is

Having watched the 30min google video I agree somewhat with the above comment.I'm wondering where the 'game' is in this hugely ambitious project.Having a world for gamers to essentialy make their own entertainment in will get tired very quickly without goals.

That said I think the video looks very interesting and I hope..*really* hope that Will Wright can come up with a game to match his vision.

I reckon this game looks very promising.

If it is as open ended as i hope it will be i.e being able to develop an underwater society or on the land etc......

Plust it fills your world with the characters needed to make a sustainable eco system from other peoples characters.

Cant wait to give it a go:D

Looks liek a good very open game with massive replayability.

Not really "hyped" but looking forward to it.

Im quite looking forward to playing this. I quite like games where i dont really have any set goals and can just do what i want. Doesnt always make for a highly addictive game but it does make it a game you will come back to a lot when you just want to mess about for a couple of hours.

The word everyone is looking for is "Procedural". Spore appears to create everything procedurally meaning that entire animations or textures are not stored but created depending on what you create which virtually enables an infinite number of combinations and user created content limited only by the users creativity...

The second big deal is the huge scope of the game, from tiny cells to civilisations and galactic war.. it looks fantastic!

had a look at the video on google of this game, looks very much like black and white in terms o the worlds engine, i seriously hope this game isn't plagued with bugs and crashes.

If you mean the game engine, its completley new...

Yes i understand that, it has a lot of features in it, and i just hope that it doesn't go down the same route as BW2 did because they tried to put too much into the game, eg micro management, and just didn't pull it off because their software wasn't up to the job.
