I visited East Croydon's Spread Eagle pub on Monday and they were showing Django Unchained for free upstairs.
The cinema is really their upstairs bar with a large projector screen and some reasonable speakers. There were some niggles: they seemed to have turned the bass to max, had left the lights on full in the room behind (some blackout curtains would have helped) and unless you got there early and grabbed a sofa then you'd be sitting on pub chairs (with a table or two for your drinks). However, I had a couple of pints watching an excellent movie with mates and would happily go again.

What I want to know is how can they show a recent movie for free? Will it be costing them quite a bit and they just hope to make it back in drink and food sales? Or is there some sort of setup where film clubs can show a movie as long as they don't charge?
Also....Django at 2hours 40 + 2 pints = a little uncomfy if you want to watch the whole movie
