Spring Budget 2023

Childcare changes : Love how they keep people hanging for 12-30 months
Likely be another Government before this gets fully implemented. [I'm not impacted by this - my child is 11]

Nah, businesses need less red tape to thrive. There should be zero friction to obtaining IT services, the whole IR35 thing is a total joke, even HMRC can't publish a calculator to understand whether something is inside or outside IR35. Then you have Lineker clearly doing a job for the BBC but getting away with being outside IR35.
There are alternatives to IR35 you know.

They are not used because dodging mandatory pension contributions and employers NIC is cheaper and it’s lower tax for the person engaged ;)

Sounds fair to ordinary workers right?

I don't really understand why this isnt going to be supported sooner? Other than to upset current parents pre election...

I don't have kids but would certainly help overcome the fiscal drag of not increasing tax bands.

Better start up a day nursery and start milking the government dry ;). It is going to be dog eat dog trying to get your child a place when this comes out.

Presumably so nurseries can get ready, it would be a stampede if it came in tomorrow and many couldn't cope.

The problem is for childcare providers the money they get from the gov isn't really enough to run the nursery so they still rely on normal income. I guess they need to plan to ensure there's enough nurseries and child care providers that aren't going to go out of business by receiving only subsidised funding.

I mean financial impact to the treasury - peanuts. For IT services you mean contractors I assume which means revoking IR35 means less tax take.

Another bit of good news in the OBR forecast: they think immigration will settle at 245k/year.

Sustainable. Hope they’re building an equivalent number of schools, hospitals etc

Press X to doubt

The immigrants are probably contacting home to let them know they don’t have it as bad as they thought.

Arriving across the channel in the middle of winter onto a British beach and shoved into an overcrowded porta cabin. Christ.

I'd rather it had gone up consistently for the last 12 years but, yes, it should go up. Fuel prices are very effective way to promote fuel efficient cars and you only need to glance at the SUV and Crossover crap cluttering the average car dealer forecourt to see that there isn't enough incentive for that.
Bingo. Thats not a vote winner though and who gives a toss about fuel emssions and so-called green policies? No-one in govt thats for sure its a farce.

Not sure that is actually the case. Although you could say it would mean less PAYE/NI tax receipts from contractors, they might pay more in corporation tax and less friction would mean better productivity for businesses purchasing those services.

Imagine how inefficient the housing market would be if the seller had to deem whether they were employing the estate agent.
