Hi All,

I've recently created my own website / blog using WordPress. The main topic of my site is Microsoft SQL, photography will feature a fair amount, and then just other little bits and pieces.

I originally started it with the premis of putting it on my CV to help me get a better job, but then I got promoted internally and this is no longer required. I will still use it for this purpose in the future, but for now I want to get people actually visiting and using my site as a reference etc. It may help my cause if a potential employeer has seen my website!

I guess what I'm after is anyone who works in the database industry to give me their honost opinion of the content I have so far, and if you think people may find it useful. Are my write-ups / examples good enough to draw people back to my site should they ever have a problem with SQL?

My website is: http://www.scratchbox.co.uk

It isn't massively content heavy at the moment, but it's getting there!

Thanks for looking, and for any opinions offered!

content.
content.
content.

the photo pages for example, there isn't anything there....I know you're working on it, but just one photo would make all the difference!

Ohh and just a few pointers if you want my 2p's worth. Plugins you need to install are w3 total cache, xml sitemap (also informs google et al of site changes) seo images, and an seo plugin (take your pick, they all same much of a muchness at moment)

no gzip/compression on your host?

I'm probably being really picky with this one, but the Microsoft version of SQL is called Transient-SQL (or T-SQL), not SQL. T-SQL and normal SQL are ever-so slightly different. But to call it Microsoft SQL is incorrect :)

More info here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transact-SQL

Transact not Transient :)

The JOIN article is unclear, it's not the simplest topic in the world granted but the Internet doesn't need more poor documentation on the subject.

Content

Thats a very ugly template.

Thank you all for your comments!

I am a little conflicted on the theam now - one says boring, another says they like it :p. I think I may change it, as others have said they find it dull too.

I understand what your saying, topbanana. Do you think it would be plausible to keep the photography section, but just not write any photography posts?

I'm guessing that you need to focus on one thing with your blog, either photography or SQL. They don't really compliment each other do they? If you just do SQL then people might just visit to find out hints and/or tips and you'll get better visitor numbers...

Makes sense!

I guess I could just post all of my pictures to my flickr account and link to there from my "About Me" bit.

I'm in the process of looking for a better theme, I'll let everyone know when I've found another that I like so that you can tell me what you think :D

New theme better - tell Libbie that her site is asking for a password re:twitter and the bebo link is broken...

Just to say..again..content content content!

:( I guess I can't cater to everyone's tastes. Any particular reason you don't like the new theme, Inquisitor?

Thanks for everyones input, I'll be sure to update my posts to use <code>, and add much more content!

The gradients seem a bit clumsy and don't mix well with the sharp edges and round corners and the borders are also too garish. It makes the page structure look fragmented and disorganized.

In my opinion, of course!
