SQL Server 2005 on a virtual machine

Hi

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Standard in a virtual environment. I am trying to create an ODBC link on my laptop so that I can connect to the SQL Server on another machine.

I receive error messages about the server not being available or not existing.

Any suggestions how I should properly connect would be appreciated.

Can you ping the server by its DNS name / IP address from the other machine?
