SQL server 2008 backup methods...

What is the best and easiest way to backup SQL server database.. I have a auto script already that runs every night, that backs up the .mdf and .ldf files... but I am assuming that .bak files are better and easier to restore from. Is there anyway to automatically generate the .bak files?

As for me the best and easiest way to backup SQL server database is using Handy Backup, it's a reliable automatic backup software.
