Hi there,

I drive a honda civic 54 plate.

I noticed recently when I move the steering wheel to the right, about quarter turn or more, there is a squeaking type noise coming from near the wheel. The noise does not come when I turn the steering wheel to the left or when driving straight.

The noise is similar to that when your brakes are wearing but I know its not my brakes as a mechanic checked them just last week.

I wonder if you could help diagnose, approx...

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thank you

When you say near the wheel do you mean the steering wheel or an actual wheel? If its an actual wheel could be a number of things, if its the steering wheel it might be a faulty rack.

sorry for confusion

to clarify...the squeaking / squealing noise is coming from the driver side front tyre when I move the steering more then a quarter turn to the right....It does not happen everytime though...

any ideas?

Does it happen when the car is out of gear?
Does it happen when the car is off?
Does braking when it happens stop the sound?
Does it go very loud when you're at full lock? (not moving, with the engine running)

The car is automatic

No it does not happen when the car is off

yes when breaking it stops

not sure about last q I will check later on and confirm

** We have a swear filter for a reason, don't attempt to bypass it ** plate, get a long screwdriver and push the plate away from the disc

Happened to my mates car, its because the pads are worn/not been put on properly on his last MOT, maybe a difference case here though?
