My PSU has started to make this really high pitched squeaking sound, its whenever i scroll the mouse or do anything. If i jsut stop doing stuff the squeaking stops....

Im 87% sure its coming from the PSU, had the side off and listened all around.

I presume this is serious and does not bode well. Anyone have any experience of this? Its driving me insane...

Oh its an Antec 450 earthwatts or summik.

Its prolly 2-3 yrs old, i dont think its the fan tbh, i know what dodgy fans sound like and like i say its only when i interact with the pc. Im guessing if it was the fan it would be relatively constant....

Also it a really high pitched sort of squeaking sound, not like a buzzing fan. I might try to record the sound to show you what i mean.

Most likely coil whine or a noisy capacitor. Common especially on PSUs and videocards. Not usually indicative of damage or a fault, just rather annoying!

My gfx is a 7900gt, im almost certain as can be that its the psu. It just started happening the other day and its totally annoying, too annoying to live with. Whatever it turns out to be is going in the bin! Will report back when i have time to rip the pc to bits :) Thanks for the heads up on the corsair ;)

Strange it just started happening, did you change any hardware recently that could be putting more or less load on it?

The Corsairs are nice PSUs, and the warranty is good too. I hear good things about the bequiet units aswell, i'm sure you couldn't go wrong with either.
