I've had my car about 2 months now and it has really squeaky brakes. It's almost a high pitched squeal. The back brakes are drums rather than discs and I think it's the back that are squeaking. Is there anything I can do about it myself or am I best taking the car to kwik fit?

Could be needed new pads or its got a bit of crap stuck in them. I wouldn't go to kwikfit though! Rear drums have never made a high pitch squeal but a low grinding sound, disks would squeal.

Whip the drums off. brush out the inside of them take a look at the shoes. and see how much meat they have on them.

Ive got hold of a mini with shoes all the way to the metal on both sides and the cylinders poped how on earth my brother managed to make it stop ill never know.
