Squeaky G5 scroll wheel

Lo all,

My G5 mouse is making some annoying noises when I scroll the middle mouse wheel up or down. It's not hugely loud, just enough to pee me off. If it was a chain on a bike I'd WD40 it but I'm not sure this is a good idea for this mouse

Thoughts and suggestions?

Dilute some washing up liquid on a cloth and rub each section of the wheel then turn the wheel a few times.
Spray some compressed air through the sides of the wheel.
Buy a new mouse.

Can I remove the mouse wheel and clean it in this way or do I need to clean it in-situ, as it were?

I wouldn't recommend an attempt at taking the mouse apart, you risk permanent damage.

If the steps i provided don't help the issue, and you DO want to risk damage, look around Google for a guide.
