Squid proxy upgrade

Any one have any experience with squid proxy?

We are running an old version 3.1.19 and want to upgrade to the latest stable 3.5.27.

Does any one know if the existing squid.conf file will be compatible or will it need some refactoring?

Don't want to upgrade and find the rules in the current .conf file are not compatible.

You think 3.1 is old ... I've still got a proxy running 2.6!

Seriously though the (fairly basic, mostly down to white-listing domains for ranges of machines) configuration on that and the proxy elsewhere I have running 3.5 is nigh on the same so I would expect you not to have major issues between 3.1 and 3.5 ... but it will depend on what features you are using and how complicated your configuration is.

But, surely the time it would take to run up a Linux VM and try your 3.1 configuration under 3.5 to see if it loads, throws and errors and generally works, would be a good idea.
