Hi All, Wanted to know if someone could offer some advice on a SSD Upgrade.

With Windows 10 just around the corner was thinking its about time I performed a full system rebuild. I'm hoping to pick up a couple of 500GB SSD's and stick em in a raid 0.

Could anyone offer a couple of choices for 500GB SSD's? Ive seen the Samsung Evo 500Gb going quite cheap recently but don't know how good these are.

My current motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 so I have a couple of Sata 3.0 Ports.

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

In the same boat and looking at the Samsung. I don't think there is any real point in RAID 0 for SSDs. If you can afford it is go for a 1TB drive.

Cheers for the info guys, better start looking at 1tb drives then. Any recommendations? Any with known issues?

i did try my Samsung 840s in raid and to be honest I couldn't notice any speed difference for gaming and loading programs to single drives.

i kept them as single drives as the magician software couldn't see the drives nor could i do any firmware updates as they where showing as intel drives due to the raid setup.

i would keep them as single drives as raiding them is pointless unless you need the speed from raiding the two drives.

do you have a budget for your SSD?

you can get the Samsung 850 evos for 149.99 each atm off OCUK or the Crucial one for the same price

the only SSDs I know of which had issues was the 840 evos with slowness over time which should be fixed by the latest firmware they released.

Ahh I remember there being issues with one of the Samsung drives but couldn't remember which one. No real budget for the SSD but now thinking 500GB single drive would be enough, Ive got a 830 currently and had no problems with it (just running out of space).

Thanks for the info once again ill take a closer look at the ones listed.

could always use your 830 for OS and then use a single 500gb ssd for storage. should free up some space on your OS drive then :)
