Hey there,

I'm planning on buying a SSD and have read on these forums that they work at peak with SATA3 connections rather than SATA2.

I have an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard atm and it only has SATA2 connections on it as far as I know. I'm wondering if it would be worth buying a SATA3 card to put into my Motherboard to connect the new SSD to?

And if the answer is Yes, then could I just buy any SATA3 card or would it need to be a specific one? If specific, Any suggestions?

I don't really have the money for both a SSD and a new Motherboard.

Sorry if these questions sound a little dumb as Im not the most technical person when it comes to PC's.

Thanks

Carl

it will be quick enough on the sata2 ports, sata 3 cards use crappy marvell controllers which arnt as good as those found on newer boards or the intel sata3 controllers

The drives themselves are so fast that it doesn't matter if it's sata2 or sata3 they're connected to :)

You'll still be amazed by the speed of everything once you get it installed. :)

Just remember to put your BIOS harddrive controller mode to AHCI before installing Windows or use the registry trick to enable it post-install if you're just copying your old OS install to the new drive.

The fix, if you need it, has been posted here multiple times, also googling "enable ahci in windows" will do the trick. :)

It's best to re-install because Windows 7 will detect it is a SSD and will disable certain features which benefit mechanical drives but would shorten the life of an SSD.
