I have a general question about hdd's

I am going to be using a new kingston ssd, in my machine this week. I will be using it to run the OS and some programs.

My question is, If I replace the motherboard of the machine, would I need to do a clean install of the OS, or can you just keep all that on the data regardless of the change?

Sorry if thats a silly question, but I really have no idea?

Thanks

If its windows 7, then it will usually allow the mobo change. Just install the latest drivers for your new mobo and carry on.
I have on occasion had it where windows needed re-activating though, but mostly its ok.

If its XP, then it nearly always requires reactivating or better yet, reformatting.

Ok thanks,

I just wondered as I am going to download Windows 8 upgrade, and wondered if I then need to put it on the new hdd, if it would cause problems as not having the cd, the one use key may be a problem.
