SSD and Samsung HDD problem ?

I put a question mark because I tried to install a 256Gb M4 SSD and had a problem that W7 took nearly 2 minutes to boot up after Bios. Its sat for a long time on the Windows splash scree. I followed the number of very good guides on here but still seemed to get nowhere. Someone suggested reloading Windows but then I read that Samsung HD204 UI (2TB) drives don't like AHCI and it wasn't clear on the Samsung website what drivers were needed or even if they were required. Searching the web didn't really give me any answers.

So I backed off.

Should I have another go ? And if so any further tips

im using a samsung 2tb 204ui just fine in ahci mode, same as my corsair ssd

what motherboard are you using?

Thanks for getting back guys...

I just had the SSD in when loading the OS....

To be fair I didn't think the Samsungs were actually the problem...but you never know. Especially as disconnecting them made no difference to the boot speed or access to to them. They worked fine.

MB is a Gigabyte MA- 790XT UD4P so "only" SATA II but I don't think thats the problem ? I did load the latest drivers etc.

do you have the os installed on the ssd? and made sure your first hdd boot device is the m4 in bios?

it shouldnt take that long on sata2,about 10-20seconds at most depending howmany programs you have at start up ect

I think I did. Initially I just had the PC running with only the SSD installed. I'm certain it was something I have done wrong or misread. I hadn't got to the stage of loading the latest M4 drivers etc as I got a bit frustrated.

I should have another attempt.

One thing, unconnected, I did notice was that the 3.5" caddy didn't really fit into any of the slots in my Antec Tower case. The holes didn't line up...

it will be a bit slower on sata II over sata III but only really noticeable to a benchmark :).

what m4 drivers are you talking about ?

Just replaced the 256GB M4 with the 128GB M4 as I save around £80 which will pay for a 1TB HDD for my NAS. And I worked out I will use less than half the 128 with all my apps anyway.

I'll have another go tomorrow or Saturday ;)
