not sure
Hi all not sure if ya read me other post but I have a Samsung 840evo and I have put the virtual memory onto my old mechanical drive.

I have 16gb of ram any way but was wondering should I have done that or should I put the virtual memory back onto my SSD?

Thanks :)

It's absolutely fine to have your pagefile on the mechanical disk however it does mean when the system uses it, it will be considerably slower.

That said with 16GB of RAM I seriously doubt you're using all of your physical RAM so it should be ok.

The main reason for originally moving your pagefile off your SSD was years ago, people had smaller RAM, meaning virtual memory was being used more, and SSD's slowed down over time with multiple read/writes which although still happens, is far less of an issue.

So there is no way its writing/reading from virtual memory even if the ram usage is only showing say 8GB in game?

If so sweet and I shall keep it on me crap drive :)

Windows/other apps will still use the pagefile, yes but to a lesser extent. Typically older software or legacy coding still makes use of it, as does Windows.

Short answer: if you have like 100GB free space on your SSD, keep the pagefile on the SSD to keep things as optimal as possible. If you're running low on SSD space, repoint to the HDD.

I always create a b:\temp and point all environment temp/tmp varibles to that
I have a dedicated 'dump' SSD though.

Doesn't really matter to be honest.
