Heres my dilema my laptop has now annoyed me that much with hangups caused by the hard drive im going to take the SATA II SSD from my pc tonight and reformat it and put it in my laptop and caddy the HD out of this. I have a license key for windows 7 as my laptop came with it but im wondering if its worth going out and buying windows 8 since i am starting from scratch. What are the differences honestly between the two in startup times/battery life etc?

Iv looked at tweaks and mods and i will not be using metro much so i will probably disable it all as much as possible so the user experience wont bother me i hope

its upto you,me personally id stick with win7 and clone your hdd/windows install to the ssd

it will use less power/run quieter and faster than any hdd would, just do a simple reg tweak to enable ahci after youve cloned the drive

Not cloning the drive.. Current drive is 640GB and the SSD is 64GB. Fresh install and i may put my HDD in one of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-031-AK or this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ktdetailseite&emcs2=HD-031-AK&emcs3=HD-022-AK

Depends what my drive is i forget

Will set windows to turn HDD of when not in use though. Will have it to store games/Music etc on.. Stuff like Chrome and Ableton Live will be on the SSD as speeds important for them for me

ohh i see,see how win7 is first as you can always upgrade to win8 later? just do new install with ahci mode set in bios first and enter your serial key again

Okay :) Ill get the iso from windows and burn it. Aslong as its the same version my serial key will go in without a problem am i right? Windows 7 Home Prem OA is what it says on laptop :) SP1 iv got on it now. So if i get the W7 Home Prem x64 With SP1 iso it should be alright yes?

Agree with waiting on Windows 8. Even people that like it say that it is a pita with a trackpad/stick.

I have a couple of machines on Win8 and one more to upgrade tomorrow before the offer price expires.

Yes it's a PITA to find your way are around but most of the windows tools are still there just a matter of pinning the control panel etc. to the desktop for quick access and getting used to a different setup.

Start up and shut down are epic compared to win 7, and compared to Vista... well

Am sticking to win 7 on my gaming PC but have upgraded vista and XP machines to win 8 and slowly finding my way around.

Like any OS, by the time you've installed the OS and the updates and added in swapfile and hibernation you won't get change from 30GB of your HDD.

Done it all now, SSD in and running windows 7 got all my manufacturer updates and stuff on. Ordered a N-store so i can remove my optical and add my 640GB in. Ordered another SSD (M4) to put back into my main machine so it isnt left out :) Works out for best
