Hi all

I have recently bought a G-Skill SSD and wondered when should you use a wiper program ? as you guess im new to SSD's
Im using Windows 7 which i heard has TRIM ...or is this not in the beta version .

When should you use wiper program and how is the best way to use it if you do need to use it ? do you have to have it in AHCI mode for it to work as mine is set to IDE and is one sata 0 port .

Any help most appreciated

most seem to do it on an weekly base, up to you really

when windows 7 fully comes out SSD makers will bring an firmware update out that will support TRIM on the ATA spec so windows 7 can send the TRIM command directly to the SSD (as long as RAID is not used)

the final version of win7 may be on illegal places as of about 1 week ago, that would be your best bet of having TRIM support, not sure if the public beta has it or not. Oct 22nd is when windows7 hits the shops so expect a new firmware just before then.

well i have pre-ordered windows 7 ...as im pretty happy with the beta version .

So has anyone else got any tips on using wiper program ? plus is there any different ones out there ?

cheers

ccleaner has added it to their software, works in RAID and with non-TRIM supporting SSD's :)

You need to select 'wipe free space' at the bottom of the options list and select which drives in settings. You have to set it on simple 1 pass overwrite too.

That works on non-TRIM supporting drives, and within Windows, without erasing data?

Does it work on TRIM enabled ssd's too ? as my G-Skill Falcon comes with TRIM enabled

Cheers

P.S just tried wiper.exe and i thought i would not work as it comes up with barefoot system error 4 times in a cmd black box ....but if leave it for a few more seconds it find the drive and works :) ...does it matter if your in IDE mode or AHCI as i have tried both ways and works everytime

not sure about CCleaner unless its doing and Low level format on free space or useing Trim command (unlikely and that would Only work on Indilinx based SSDs as thay are the only ones to implement it but not fully)

i see if custom pc have still got the corsair P128 or p256 see if ccleaner does any thing
