Okay this is my idea.

I have a PC that works fine and I don't want to reinstall windows.

It has a single 500GB hard disk with two partitions, C: 100GB and D: 400GB

What I'd like to do is to ghost C: onto an SSD and when it is working, to delete the original C: and extend D: to the full 500GB.

So my questions

1 - Will this work?

2 - Can you recommend an SSD please. There are so many, at different prices and I assume they are not all equal. My MoBo only supports SATA II. Want something fast and reliable but reasonably priced.

Many thanks,

Nigel

830 or 840?

The one I was looking at is the Samsung 840 Pro (128GB).

Would that be a good choice?

Cheers,

Nigel

yes the pro would be,the non pro isnt as good as the 830

samsung 840 = tlc triple level nand

samsung 840 pro = mlc multi level cell nand

samsung 830 = mlc multi level nand

mlc nand is better and longer lasting than tlc nand memory

Thanks for the info.

So is my idea of just connecting it up to the SATA and then ghosting the C: drive across valid - or is there more to it than that?

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks for the info. I'm going to go for the Samsung 840 Pro 128MB.

Another question - what size is it - is it a 2.5" or 3.5" format.

If 2.5", does it come with a mounting kit or do you have to buy that seperately?

Cheers,

Nigel

2.5" they dont come with bracket but they are very light as light as a memory stick so you can stick it inside your case or use elastic band or rest it somewhere

the bundled brackets that come with the drive are overpriced, just buy the basic ssd kit and but seperate mounting bracket if need be

im thinking about a ssd and was just going to use velcro , im sure that would be fine would it not
