Okay, so here goes.

I currently have a Samsung 850 Evo 250GB SATA SSD as my main drive & a 1TB HDD for games, apps, files etc.

I wish to upgrade he 1TB HDD to an SSD but I'm kind of stuck with choice.

Do I:

1) simply get a Samsung 850 Evo 1TB M.2?

or

2) Spend a little bit more on a Samsung PM961 Polaris 1TB NVMe?

Considering that this will only be used to install a handful of games, some apps & iTunes backups (have a number of iDevices) will the extra spent on a NVMe drive reflect in the performance gaines?

There is an option, 3) Stop being a cheapskate and get a Samsung 960 Evo.

Any & all thoughts welcome

Get the cheapest 1TB SSD with a good warranty is my advice. You probably won't see much, if any, of a performance improvement going to NVME compared to HDD to SSD

Nvme or and m.2 are for people who absolutely need the top speed for large files and video editing etc..

If you are gaming and a casual pc user using a 1tb regular SSD suffice, infact I'd argue that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
