SSD drives - how do people use them?

I will be using my system for gaming and browsing the net. I understnad that most people with an SSD install Windows on it for faster running.

Do gamers also install games on this, and does it improve speeds? I was just wondering as the 40GB SSD I'm about to own, isn't that large when you consider the size of today's games.

I've got a 30gb ssd in a netbook, to enhance battery life, make the atom cpu somewhat tolerable and to improve impact resistance when dropped.

I knocked it off a 5 foot high chest of draws last night while it was running. It's not bothered, I'm typing on it now. Definitely a good place for solid state storage.

Aye, 40GB isn't a lot of space. However, you should be able to install your OS, your main apps and maybe a game or two before you hit the limit. With the OS on the drive, loading up windows is VERY quick and in my experience the whole desktop experience feels "snappier". Also, with key apps installed on the SSD (office, video player, browser) these also load up much quicker, which really improves the computer-using experience in my opinion.

With games installed on the SSD - they are generally faster to install and loading is much faster. These are main benefit however - the framerate won't be any better.

Thanks very much guys. I'll ensure the OS goes on there for sure and probably not worry about the games. I only play online and if the FPS isn't improved then a quicker load time isn't massively important.

Different topic, but I'm also a little confused about HDD's.

If anyone who sees this could spare the time to help me out on this thread it would be very much appreciated.

I'm looking to finalise my system build asap.
