Just wondering how the process works in updating the firmware on an OCZ Vertex 2E, and can it be done if the drive is currently being used as an OS drive?

Thanks :)

It used to be possible to flash the firmware from the OS currently running but this was disabled in the most recent OCZ Toolbox (because it almost always caused a BSOD requiring a hard reset, and had a small risk of bricking the SSD). Now you must do the following (assuming you're using Windows 7 x64):

1) Boot to Windows 7 32-bit Repair CD (or DVD, USB stick, etc.).
2) Select the "restore image" option button and click next.
3) Click cancel on the search, then click cancel again.
4) Let it finish until you get a list with "Command Prompt" at the bottom and choose that.
5) Run most recent "ssdupdate" tool (from the boot disk or another HDD).

Please note though that there hasn't been a proper firmware update in a while - one was due on Monday but never came. Versions 1.24-1.28 are identical (aside from the NAND configurations they support).

Might be wrong but i heard it requires a re-format

Hi Dragon

My Vertex 2E Came this morning will this be 1.24 already?

If so then thats all i need it be, since it might be 1.23 you see. Then i would flash it.

Would install windows first then check the firmware then update using the method you explained, would that be right?

Thanks
