Hello All,

I am wondering if anyone knows what SSD's I can put in a "HP Proliant DL380 G5" server. and will I get a big increase in performance if our user profiles are held on an SSD.

Thanks

Well I would say you will be fine with any SSD, they are all compatible with any SATA device. You will need a 2.5 to 3.5 bracket to mount it in the server correctly.

And yes you should see a good improvement in performance!

the Crucial MX100 SSD's are the cheapest per GB at the mo and very good, something more 'enterprise' grade for a server might be an Intel or the new Samsung 850 Pro drives which has a 10 year warranty and better benchmarked performance.

I would check this very carefully because I have tried SSD's in a 380 and the array controller wont detect them.

I dont know if its the make of SSD or the controller license key but it just ignored it.

As long as its not netapp or running netapp application it should be ok. If your running on a cisco network check with them that installing aftermarket device doesn't affect any of their SLA's you have with them.

A standard DL380 G5 doesn't have SATA interfaces, they are SAS (not the same thing).

SanDisk have new server range AFAIR from reading a few weeks ago, I was going to post it here but thought nobody be interested TBH..

Im running a G5 with 6 10k SAS drives 72gb ones in Raid 10.

The biggest limit is now the Teamed NICs.

2 Gigabit Link fully saturated at 245Mb/sec

SSDs will be a waste i feel unless you 10G fibre it.
