SSD for games.

Basically, i understand that SSD's are a lot quicker at loading Windows and other applications faster than a HDD, but i'm not sure which brand to pick, so any insight would be grateful.

Edit: I've also decided i want Windows to run via an SSD as well.

I've just installed an SSD.
An intel 80GB variant.
I've moved my steam folder to a data drive, and also moved the user docs, and the index history to the data drive, so rather than turn indexing off, I am just not using up SSD space for it. Pagefile I left where it was, and hybernation i deactivated completely.

Basically, when it comes to SSDs, just how much money have you got to spend?
What motherboard do you have, and do you plan on changing any other components in the near future?

Mobo: Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H and spending amount isn't a problem, atm, i don't need to change any components, but in the near future, more than likely.

Sounds like quite a few people are having problems with OCZ SSDs.

Crucial and Intel seem to be what's being recommended.

I've got a 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 and I've had no problems at all with it (yet!). In fact it's one of the best single component upgrades I've ever done.

I'm getting a 250GB Intel ElmCrest next week to compare to the OCZ.

I'm having plenty of problems of my own but (hopefully) the SSD isn't one of them. LOL!

i have a corsair drive and its pretty damn quick, so wouldnt rule them out either

My OCZ drive is blindingly fast and, as I said, I've had no problems with it so far.

This highlights one of the risks of getting info from internet forums: you only ever really get to hear about the things that go wrong or that people are having problems with. This can be enough to put some people off getting a component which might be working perfectly in loads of machines.

thats why i try to post good things about stuff i buy.....like my silver arrow thread, G620..... so that it lets people know things dont always have to be negative.

Intel or crucial.
ocz and the controller used in the newer drives seems funky at best.

Errr.. ssd for gaming isnt gonna prove much, os - yes, gaming? well, if you have enough money for a big ssd then i suppose why not, me personaly would get 60gb, 30 for os and progs, 30 for 3-4 games u constantly play, and thats that
