hi
I'm thinking of going down the SSD route very soon and I'm unsure whether to buy a sata-3 drive or not. Since my current motherboard only supports upto sata-2 will a 3 drive such as the Intel 510 Elmcrest 120GB work ok albeit at a slower speed? I'm gonna upgrade to a B3 board or later anway soon also.

I am using a Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB atm as my main system drive and Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB as storage.

Or should I just save my money and buy a sata 2 ssd and upgrade to 3 when I buy a new motherboard?

Spose I should have looked at the Elmcrest product page, its says backwards compatible, so I've ordered one anyway and if it struggles I'll get a controller card until I upgrade my motherboard

That intel does detail its 3Gb speeds well, but all sata 3 SSD's I have looked at are backward compatible.

In my mind buying a sata 2 SSD over a sata 3 is no bad thing if it saves big money, realistically tho, I would get a sata 3 and if no MB upgrade is imminent, get a sata 3 controller card but only if you feel under done :)

The only issue for me is what controller card is a good one!
