Hey guys,

Thinking of getting a 128Gb SSD for my laptop. Its only SATA2, but I still think the speed boost should be pretty significant coming for a standard 5400rpm mechincal drive.

Narrowed it down to the M4 or one of the Intel drives (even though they are 120GB). Problem is, I don't really want to reinstall Windows again. I've seen migration software like Acronis which seems pretty good, so will probably end up using something like that.

So a couple of questions:

1) The laptop doesn't have a DVD drive. Does migration software work over USB, and is there anyone in particular you guys recommend for this?

2) Since this isn't a fresh install, will the performance be affected that much?

Can't think of anything else of the top of my head at the minute, so any help on this would be great!

from what i've read, you're better off going for a fresh install on a ssd, as it requires different drivers. that and reinstalling windows could provide a bit of performance boost anyway.

Really? :(

Not the biggest disaster, but still a bit annoying as its a fairly old install by my standards.

Driver wise, is it not just the AHCI drivers that are installed? My hard drive is already set o AHCI, so I thought it should just pick it up as normal?
