SSD for my PC Spec?

Decent enough choice. Though nothing wrong with the Vertex 2E, or the C300 either. Think it's almost currently at a point where it's a matter of "what takes your fancy". That and "what's your budget" and "how much space do you want".

Only my personal opinion, but I don't see these as the "life changing experience" some seem to (no insult meant to anyone there). The biggest improvement will come when hopefully prices crash (fingers crossed but not holding my breath) and capacities increase so that you can replace all your mechanical drives with SSD's. I also think we need SATA3 and much better controllers than are around at the moment to truly unlock the potential of SSD's.

Though all told I'm happy with my purchase of the Vertex 2E. But then again, I expect I would have been just as happy with either an Intel, or Crucial drive. Now there's honesty for you.

I don't think I have sata 6gb on my motherboard (someone correct me if im wrong here) so the C300 would be a waste? Not to mention that the intel has more capacity and I can't stretch to the 256gb C300 price

Opinions?

I would echo mikeo's post.

Iv had the value intel ssd for a year, just recently upgraded to a vertex 2E 60Gb, not really for more speed, but for more capacity, oh and means my aging lappy gets a new lease of life too.

I can tell there is a speed difference between the 2 drives, but its not a massive one, so what i would say to you nameless, is go for the drive, that suits your needs better, mostly that will come down to the size and cost of the drive.

The Intel drives, especially the mainstream ones are still up there with the best of them, so as you have no sata 3 and it looks like your max budget is £300, then the best drive would probably be the one you linked too.

One below would be nice for both speeds and capacity, but it is £40 more, but generally as its more read with ssd's then writing, the intel drive is just as good.

You do have a Sata 6GB/s. Just had a look on the OCUK website and you have two which support RAID 0 and RAID 1

Not according to Gigabytes WEB site!

Not even aware that OCuk sell this particular board.

Though they do have the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 but that's a different board to what the OP has.
