i want an ssd but dont no what capacity to get it will only be used for OS and main programs and then 2x 2tb drives for everything else so could anybody recomend and ssd that aint gunna break the bank

Depending on the size of the programs you have a 32Gb one will be plenty, then at a later date add another and raid the 2 for the OS drive :)

I'm after basically the same thing as the OP, plan on running a few games from mine too though, currently only using 50gb with windows7/small programs/steam what would people suggest for a maximum of £200?

Intel X25 80gb is widely recognised as the best performing SSD but comes at a premium (£171.99)

The other brands all offer roughly similar performance and are largely based on the Indilinx or Samsung PJ22 controllers. Crucial M225s are probably the choice for the "best of the rest" as they are much cheaper. The 128gb (slightly over budget) at £209.99 or 64gb £107.99. The 128gb+ perform better than the 64gb drives.

Got a Crucial M225 128GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive which I'll partition 50/50 for OS+APP's, other partition GAMES, and Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache for back up, photo's, doc's etc. For my i7 build.

Probably will grab an ssd soonish, either the Intel mainstream x25 or the 128gb Crucial. Samsung ones look worth considering also.
