SSD hangs at "Starting Windows"

Today I got my Crucial 64GB M4 and in terms of performance, I am blown away. How could I have gone so long without a SSD?

There is one problem though - whenever I start the system, it hangs at "Starting Windows" for a few minutes which is VERY annoying considering a SSD could do it in seconds.

This Windows install is a fresh one and works perfectly fine - runs like a dream. It just hangs when starting up. The read/write is fine and is just about what Crucial advertised and I have also updated the firmware to the latest.

I have Googled this issue but so many people have suggested certain things and that have made no difference at all. The SSD is first in the boot order and I've done a error scan with HD Tune Pro and all came up OK.

Thanks in advance.

are you in ahci mode for the sata ports in the bios?

Yes :) I have triple checked since I started hehe

Edit: I just had a black screen occur when just browsing the internet... it has never happened before and I have had this build for a good month without any issues. Is it likely to be related to the SSD?

have you checked your start up menu in msconfig and the services being loaded?

Starting windows is well after the bios.

In response to your edit above, yes it could be.

boot times on my ssd are pretty slow too, I do have mine on a separate raid card however which has a handy LED to show activity on just the SSD. This seems to show the SSD is hardly doing much during boot but all my other drives are clunking away doing various things despite having no windows files on them.

How many other drives do you have connected? have you tested the boot time with nothing but the ssd connected?

Thanks. It seemed to have solved it's self. Maybe Windows had far too many updates to get on with!

I've checked msconfig and all is fine, I am running the 000F firmware and I had only the SSD and a storage drive connected.

Fortunately it managed to sort it's self out after I left it idle for a few hours (Even though Windows said it had no updates to do) and tested with several reboots :)
