Willing to spend upto £200 for both.
My raid10 has failed again, and refusing to start up into windows...again!

2nd Mechanical drive looking to be atleast 1Tb. Holding Basically everything that isn't the main OS.

Cheers guys.

I have just bought an OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB the other week and I am very happy with the performance of that.

You can find them for ~£100 currently.

It depends on your motherboard and BIOS. Let people know your motherboard and they'll probably be able to give you a better idea of how to enable it. I think you've made a good choice. I own an Intel X25-M and a Vertex 2E and there is very little between them in 'real terms'. Just make sure you don't benchmark the hell out of the Vertex as this will do nothing but slow things down for you.

Gigabyte X38 DQ6. Not sure which bios version. I've got in mind when I start it up it states something about ACHI.

Also if it helps, it's currently set up as raid10. But Iam taking out the faulty port/hard-drive (the one that fails all the time no matter what) and having it as raid5.

edit: Should have said got the 80gb x-25m.

If your storage controller is in RAID mode, AHCI is implied. You can confirm by running an AS-SSD benchmark - the QD32 bench will post significantly better results than the standard 4K. That's thanks to NCQ (Native Command Queuing) which is part of AHCI.

Good choice with the X25, normal benchmarks don't always show it, but it's still got the best performance at low queue depths and small file sizes <4k. Go look at some IOMeter benches and it's got a pretty big lead over the Vertex2.
