im building a new computer and wanted a really fast boot up time
everything is high spec apart from the hdd
i want 500gb for storage (songs games movies etc)
i was thinking to get a 32gb ssd harddrive for os bootup
would this make boot up times faster?

In theory yes. In practise it won't make a huge difference. Optimising the OS has a far greater benefit than upgrading the hardware in my experience.

would 2 Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB in RAID 0 be very fast
what is raid 0 and raid and how does it work

Or just buy 3 ocz core v1/2 30gb ssds buy a decent controller and raid0 them. You won't get any issue's if there raided up :)
