Currently running Windows 7 with an SSD.

Do I need to perform things such as Disk Clean up, Disk Defrag etc like I would on a traditional hard disk or will it take care of itself?

What can I do if required to keep performance as high as possible.:D

don't do disk defrag on a SSD, its designed for normal HDDs, from what I have read you can loose performance from the SSD.

I run disk clean up every now and then and disable system restore but I don't do anything different to what I do with a normal HDD.

the things I do are to save on space not because its a SSD.

what SSD do you have? ive got a Samsung evo 840 250GB drive.

the only thing I would suggest is to make sure the sata ports are set to ACHI, using a sats 3 (6gb) port for full read and write speeds and that's it

in windows 7 disk defrag is disabled.

I did a fresh install a week or so ago of windows 7 and its set to never run and I didn't change this.

Disabling indexing and super fetch and prefetch are a few things I do.

Also disabling hibernation and hybrid sleep.

I have the Samsung software that came with my SSD which does that when you do the OS optimisation which is quite handy.

Gilber89 - what SSD did you get?

Also disabling hibernation and hybrid sleep.

I remove the "Hiberfil.sys" file, then I can use sleep without it writing loads to the SSD each time sleep is used, but you can no longer use hibernate, only sleep.

To disable/remove the file, get the "command prompt" up, then type "powercfg -h off"

Nothing special needed really. Windows 7 should take care of the drive on its own. Make sure you set your sata host to AHCI mode.

SSDs are designed to last for years of continuous torture (constant writes). By the time your SSD gets into a bad shape, you will probably need to upgrade your entire PC !
