I dragged an old PC out of the cupboard its a E8500 3.16ghz Core 2 Duo, 2gb ram with a nvidia geforce 8800 gt in it.

So the question is if i put a SSD drive in it will it make that much of a difference or better just starting a new build?

Obviously i would be putting the memory up to 8gb and a x64 OS on it also would be used for general office work to replace my Mac Mini i5 as it seems a waste to use my Mac Mini as I only use Windows on it anyway.

Thanks

Assuming it has DDR2 memory, I wouldn't bother touching it - the price of DDR2 memory is pretty high and it would be pointless to spend a load of money on old tech.

If you were planning to buy an SSD for a new build eventually anyway, you may as well buy the SSD now for this pc as you can always use it at a later date in a new build. :)

You should see a noticeable improvement is responsiveness - overall speeds will be limited by the sata 2 ports, but will be a lot faster than a hard drive from 5 or so years ago....

Depends what you want it for.

Whilst it's not brand new, that spec will still be decent. 8800GT had some legs!. 8500 punched above it's weight too for a while. Will fly along nicely with an SSD. I think you'd be looking at 4GB. Ample for an office/home pc.
