SSD Installation Help

Got a crucial 128gb ssd that I'm trying to install Windows 7 on. I've done a bit of research on this already and have disconnected the current hard drive and set sata mode to ahci.

When I get to if I want to do an upgrade or custom install it doesn't detect the ssd.

What am I doing wrong?

Are all the SATA ports enabled in the BIOS? If so, try a different SATA cable and/or power lead would be my suggestion.

Are you using the chipset (Intel or AMD) controller? These should be picked up during install, but not sure about Marvel, Jmicron etc.

I'll have another look in bios but everything that should be enabled was enabled from what I could see. I'll try a different power cable as the sata one is brand new so don't think its that.

Processor is intel and have all mobo drivers.

if you are using a sata 3 port (6gb) make sure they are also set to achi as sometimes they have different controllers and they both need to be set to achi.

I have two different coloured sata ports and I've tried the ssd in each of them.

SSD isn't detected by bios either when I checked just now. As above poster suggested I'll see if I can find a spare power cable.

I'll check for more ahci options in bios.
 
Right enabled every sata setting I could find to ahci and used a brand new power cable and still nothing. Still not detected in bios either. I'm about to give up:mad:

That is my integrated peripherals settings. Not sure my mobo support hot swappable.

I do have a spare pc but when the ssd is connected the pc doesn't even power on.

I'll disconnect all sata devices apart from ssd and try it in each one. Tried to look for asmedia or marvell settings in bios but couldn't see any.
 
No go with trying it in all sata ports.

Set it back to IDE and only optical drive is detected. Could SSD be faulty? It was bought brand new but too old for RMA.

Will give those two suggestions a go. Just gonna put pc back together with old hard drive connected for now.
 
Bumping this as no further forward. Haven't gone as far as RMA with Crucial yet but have got my hands on a hard drive caddy and Windows detects is as a portable device, but there's no sign of it in Device Manager or Disk Management.

I'm wondering if the PC that wouldn't boot with this SSD connected has killed it.
