Can i do this, i want to put my now redundant 120gb force 3 SSD into a caddy to use as portable storage preferably with usb 3.0.

Never had a caddy before, so what about power etc? does it just power through USB?

Is it possible? And can you recommend an ideal caddy?

Thanks.

Yeah it'll work fine, I had my Vertex2 60GB in an Icybox USB enclosure this morning as I was cloning my old HDD onto it. It was a little weird having it sitting there utterly silent though (enclosure was open), it's my first SSD.

As above, most enclosures/caddys for 2.5" drives run just off the USB, though they often have an extra power port for older/higher current drives. My Vertex2 ran just fine off the USB.

It should work, but there's no guarantee. I have five SSDs and the two SATA-III ones (Crucial C300 and Corsair Performance Pro) both have compatibility problems with caddies.

The Corsair is the worst, it just refuses to work at all in two of the three caddies I have. It isn't even detected.
