SSD issue

Since reinstalling Windows a few weeks back a few problems have come about..

If I right click on Desktop it waits for 2-3 seconds and powers up both the SATA hdd's which were not in use, then the right click menu appears.

If I open a folder on my desktop, It again waits for a few seconds, powering on d: and e: (satas) before opening the folder on my desktop.

It's really frustrating because the files are all stored locally on the SSD (c:\, boot drive)
When I installed Windows I removed power to both sata drives leaving only the SSD for the whole install.

Am I missing something really simple? pls help

Why does it need to bootup the drives when none of the files im opening are stored on them? They're on the SSD. I'd prefer not to have all drives permanently on if possible. (Like on my previous W7, before reinstall)

cheers

Any reference in the explorer shell to the HDDs will require them to power on.

Think Libraries (Listed on left). Any context menus in right click which might plug-in to apps installed elsewhere.

Sometimes Explorer just tries to access them anyway. Never had a FDD have a spaz when you open My Computer? :D
