Hi guys,

could you spec me a 250-500gb sata III ssd ?

looking for something second hand cheap on ebay with good read/write speeds

many thanks

Noticed there are quite many used 256GB SSDs.

If you want cheap 256GB SSD with great read and write speeds then I would suggest used Samsung OEM 840 Pro 256GB SSD has amazing 540MB read and 520MB write speed.

Here are none of used 512GB SSD but I would recommend new Crucial MX100 512GB cost just £30 more than Samsung OEM 840 Pro 256GB SSD give you twice storage and has great 518MB read and 504MB write speed. :)

Second hand is a bit iffy isn't? You don't know how much data has been written to it in it's life time. Some of the older models might be prone to failure after writing a lot of data.

I like the Samsung 840 Evos and the Sandisk ultras for budget reasons.

Yeah sellers sold second hand SSDs that been used for years should provided SSDLife and other screenshots to let buyers know the status of SSD health, how much data had been written and how much life left.

I would done it if I sell used SSDs. :)

you should have access to the MM section, do a wanted post for one or look through the selling section.

do you have a budget for the SSD?

yeah i do.

Thank you all for suggestions.

To be honest a 256gb or there abouts would be sufficient.

looking for something cheap and cheerful. ive just bought a ultabook and it came with standard 500gb 5400rpm.

Im hoping upgrading to ssd will increase performance. reduce power consumption and weight.

ideall budget would be under £40-50 .

let me know your thoughts. i have no idea what that would get me.

for 250GB you are looking at second hand, cheapest SD for 250GB new is about £80 through OCUK.

what will the laptop be be used for as you maybe able to get away with 120GB SSD?

I will be using it for video/photography editing. general browsing. I will also run virtualisation of GNS3 cisco.

I have a 4tb file server at home, where i off load all my data(pics, videos)

I just want something where it will be noticeable performance increase but at cheap value. is it really that bad buying second hand ?

I don't think its that bad buying second hand SSDs providing you get health check screen shots etc to show there is no errors with the drive

which software is the one used for this. Just so i can ask the seller to send a screenshot.

also what things should i look for. is it relatively straight forward stats ?

£50? Well at that range you will able to find about every second hand SSDs are 128GB so I saw second hand 250GB Samsung 850 EVO cost £60, the seller provided screenshot of Samsung Magician showed SSD health and amount data written. Looked good but it was out of your price range. :(

i might go for something like 250gb for what i need. i will be traveling with the laptop and saving a lot of pictures and videos on the go .

I might have to increase my budget. but just to clarify the models i should look out for are samsung 840/850 and Crucial MX100

is there any other good models that go second hand with decent read/write speeds ?

many thanks again all

I had a look around and made a list below.

Micron C400 256GB SSD 516.1MB read & 244.73MB write
Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB SSD 509.32MB read & 279.81MB write
Crucial M500 240GB SSD 502.98MB read & 426.97MB write
Intel 520 240GB SSD 500.7MB read & 303.1MB write

Think you should look out for Crucial M500, not sure about other 3 as write speed seemed poor.
